Norton always shows down computers, but how often do these programs actually corrupt the OS or browsers? I'd say about 1/10 installs. What do you think?

Tried products from these 2 companies over the years and from my experience McAfee gave me less trouble than Norton. I've used tried Norton products since the day of Win95 and all i can tell you that their products tends to be the worse. I've lost count of how may times i've had to do a clean install on my PC just to fix all of the problems from Norton. Norton products tends to conflict with all kinds of apps on my PC. The average person probably will be fine using Norton if they don't have many different type of apps installed. Now, i don't use either products anymore when there are better alternatives, although my laptop came pre-install with McAfee Security Suite for Vista and it works fine during the trial period. I would say Norton will screw up your PC 8 out of 10, McAfee about 1 in 10, based on my experience with both.

Use light and good working anti-virus with optional features like NOD 32, avg,avast etc... Norton and mcafee really slows down. Even i switched from mcafee to nod 32. It's working cool!.
If installed correctly, which is almost impossible, they wont do anything bad. The best program is Etrust antivirus, which is avaliable free if you have roadrunner. Otherwise it will set you back about a hundred dollars.
I see the noobs saying Norton is bad are back. Norton only has problems when the owner does not use it right.
They both suck ***. You have to think, you can get them free when getting a new computer or ISP. Most hackers no that and spend their time hacking them since 8 out of 10 people are dumb enough to use them.
