i have been looking on ebay for some custom computers to give me a reference on what to sell on it. some of the systems look like you pay less than what they ought to cost even if the system is new. what is up with this?

well there is high end part and low end part, depending on what custom computer are made for, i have a P4 canterwood for graphic use, i'm sure i can sell that for 1000 USD if i want to. but with a 1000 USD u can get a low quality mid machine at www.hp.com, also motherboard make a different

Nothing.
I custom build them and sell them on eBay too, and they are cheaper than what you think, because i still out price them.
Its possible that the computers you saw on eBay have lower quality parts than what you would buy.
I've also noticed that eBay sellers are willing to sell for a much smaller profit margin.
