I am writing an essay, well a long answer and I'm talking about technology in mathematics education, like graphics calcs, scientific calcs and computers and their positive and negative effects, I've got a heap of ideas just wanted to see what other people think about this?
Do you think there are negatives?
And has anyone had much experience with graphics calc's I haven't really used one so not even sure if they're that good or not! :) Any input will be appreciated
What do you think are the pos and neg effects computers have on maths education?spyware remover
I havent used graphing calculator, but I tell from what I know and heard about it.
Advantages: Graphing calculator can shorten the time it takes to perform computations, produce a graph, or do other mathematical procedures.
Disadvantages:Information provided by calculator may be incomplete or incorrect for these reasons:
(a)The resolution of the graph depends on the scale on the x and y axes that you choose. The graphing calculator produces a graph by plotting a large, but finite, number of points on the graph. The behavior of function between the plotted points(pixels) is not shown.
If the behavior of the function between the pixels is "nice", then the graphing calculator's graph "tells the truth" about the function. If the behavior of the function "isn't nice", then the graphing calculator's graph "lies'. When you are working with a particular function using the graphing calculator, it is your knowledge of mathematics that enables you to determine whether the calculator is "telling the truth" or "lying".
