Netgear router, how to get it to work with 2 computers at once?

I have a netgear router and AT%26T DSL modem. I want both computers to be able to connect to the internet at the same time. I spent 2 hours on the phone with Netgear tech support and all they could do was switch the internet connection from my desktop to my laptop, but they couldn't get both to work at once.

It doesn't seem like it should be that hard. Can anyone help?

Acutally it can be done...depending on your dsl modem...most likely your modem is what is known as a smart modem. Which means it has the same nat/pat technology built into it that the router does which is what is causing the problems. The soloution is not with netgear but with your dsl company. You simply need to call your dsl company and explain to them you would like to setup a router and need to have your modem switched to dumb mode. This turns off that nat/pat technology and simply allows the information to be passed directly from your modem to the router. Your modem will then retain your username and password information when you set it up for PPPoE mode. It sounds hard and difficult but really it is not that bad, and most dsl companies have the tools to configure your modem for you if you can't do it yourself. Best of luck to you.

some of the home class modems they use, in particular the speedstream 4100 can't be networked. Believe my I have waisted countless hours trying. give them another call and see if you can get the 2wire modem with the built in 4 port router.
yes i have a netgear router take the router and hook it to your computer and for your laptop either use a usb wireless adapter or use the pci wireless card then you can use both at the same time
