If I have a 4 port router, but 10 client computers, what kind of hardware will I need?

Hi,

I am going to have 10 client computers and would like to keep my existing router. Would it be possible to buy a 16 port switch to have them communicate? Does the switch need an uplink port, or will it automatically recognize the port the router is on? This is the hardware I'm looking to buy: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/JFS...

Please let me know if this will work.

Thanks

Yes, that will work.

All you need is a switch to support all of your client pcs.

Just plug the switch into one of your router ports, then plug anything else into the switch.

Power everything off when you plug in your switch. From your cable modem to existing router to switch. Then connect your PCs, then power on cable modem, wait a minute, then power up your router then switch.

It should work fine.

Yes a switch is the way to go.

The one you are looking at will automatically configure what ever port your router is attached to as an uplink port. So you do not have to have any special cables.

I do not know what price you are expecting to pay, but they vary pretty widely on eBay. This is one auction.

Like said plug it in no uplink cable needed the router should take care of any crossovers. That is the one I am using on my router.
Just connect the switch to your router and then connect all your computers to the switch. Traffic in %26 out will be switched automatically to the correct computer.
