yes, but b/c the driver model is written for specific hardware, if you notice, Apples tend to be more stable, and take up less of a memory foot print then the competing Microsoft OS.

This is because the OS does not have to be written to run on any hardware platform. Also too, this allows for drivers and software to be further tweaked to the HW platform, thus running much more efficiently.

I switched a long time ago from MS To UNIX, now that OSX is based upon BSD (A Unix variant) and runs on Intel hardware I made the move over b/c it was the best of both worlds that I wanted, a pretty GUI (Aqua) and a rock solid core operating system (Unix) and access to all the goodness that makes Unix the goodness!.

as far as I know it is, i prefer macs to any other kind of computers i think they are much easier to use and that they do more, there is just not enough support for them as there are for windows computers.
